Acupuncture is a complete system of medicine based on principles which have been used in China for the last 4000
years. It works with the natural energies inherent within all living things to promote the body's ability to heal itself.
Recognition of Acupuncture
Acupuncture and Chinese herbal treatments are getting more and more recognition across the Western medical field. In 1996, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reclassified acupuncture as medical devices. The World Health Organization (WHO) has also recognized acupuncture as an effective medical treatment. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) and many other national agencies concluded that "there is sufficient evidence ... of acupuncture's value to expand its use into conventional medicine and to encourage further studies of its physiology and clinical value". In 1992, Congress established the Office of Alternative Medicine. The demand was so high that it expanded into the National Center for Complementary Medicine in 1999. Therefore, the facts have proved that the benefits of alternative medicine has gone into the mainstream in medical field in this nation. In California and other major states, acupuncture is a primary health care profession.
